And life in all that?

In that paragraph we shall forget a little the strict house's study for examining the social surrounding and the atmosphere of GRAND RUE district.

People who come and settle there are maybe delighted by conviviality. Conviviality in a village like this? That may surprise more than one person. Just he never stayed a long time in TRENTEMOULT. There, as soon as someone is out of something (matchers, oil, butter, or only company), he hurries and asks to his neighbour who will be happy to give him it. That permits to interchange a few words, to organise a meal, a party…In TRENTEMOULT, all is pretext for meeting all together. It is enough that you say to your neighbour a party will be, at once he gives the word; like that, tables are set in the GRAND RUE middle, and under the walking visitor's surprised eye, a fantastic picnic takes place, everybody bringing a dish and tasting that is offered.

But this desire of joining all together doesn't exist in the grown-up only. As soon as the smallest sunbeam goes through the clouds, the children come together for deciding the best way to spend the day. Authentic groups are formed; the elders look after the youngers and are charged with the peace, the organisation of the day seeing after everybody. If children have had a good time, which is known very quickly, immediately the day after the GRAND RUE is still busier, some going through TRENTEMOULT for coming and joining to the troop!

However as soon as the winter arrives, everybody stays at home, and quickly, people that must go out, cross the empty streets now, and it's with more joy the inhabitants meet together in spring for a lot of other parties.
